Ulti-Mutts

Flyball Teams

The Ulti-Mutts were created by Mad City Dog Training in the Spring of 2000. Flyball is a fun sport that utilizes many of the skills that are taught in our Obedience, & Agility classes. Four dogs make-up a relay racing team that involves: jumping over a series of 4 jumps; hitting a box to release a tennis ball; catching the ball; and returning over the 4 jumps; at which point the next dog starts the jump sequence. It is a great activity for those athletic dogs with a naturally strong drive for retrieving tennis balls. The Ulti-Mutts compete in both NAFA (North American Flyball Association) and U-Fli (United Flyball League Internationial) sponsered events.

We offer a beginning and an intermediate class in Flyball. After successful completion of the classes, the dog can join the team and participate in Tournaments. There are over 30 tournaments per year, that are with in a reasonable driving distance from Madison, located  in northern Illinois, the Minneapolis area, and Wisconsin.

Our 15,000 square foot training facility provides the ultimate in accommodations for the Ulti-Mutts. The practice rooms are fully matted with 3/4 inch solid rubber. The racing lanes are arranged to provide a total running length of 160 feet. An adjacent room provides 3,000 square feet of crating space. The entire facility is fully heated and air conditioned.

NAFA SANCTIONED TOURNAMENTS AT MAD CITY DOG TRAINING

The Ulti-Mutts hosted their first two (2) NAFA Sanctioned Flyball Tournaments on March 9th & 10th, 2002 at the Mad City Dog Training Center. The Madison March Madness tournament was limited to 24 teams per day. We co-hosted, with Hit Squad from Illinois, an unlimited tournament at the Dane County Fair on July 19,20, & 21, 2002. Our first annual Fall Flyball Tournament was held November 30 & December 1, 2002.

In 2003, the Ulti-Mutts once again hosted the annual Madison March Madness and in December the Ulti-Mutt Winter Games.  These were both a huge success and all teams participating had a rockin' good time.

Our third annual Madison March Madness tournament will be held on March 6 & 7, 2004. Spectators are welcome. No admission fee. Stop by and watch some fast paced dog team racing. Feel the excitement and enthusiasm of the dogs in Flyball competition.
